In a small pot, add your water, basil, and monk fruit. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 20 minutes. Pour through a fine mesh strainer and store in the fridge up to 2 weeks.
For the drink:
In a cocktail shaker, add your bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice. Shake at least 30 seconds or until cocktail shaker is extremely cold.
Pour over ice in a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with a lemon slice and sprig of basil.
