Basil Simple Syrup

Basil Whiskey Sour

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice
  • 3/4 ounce sugar free basil simple syrup
  • Ice

Instructions
 

For the Basil Simple Syrup:

  • In a small pot, add your water, basil, and monk fruit. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 20 minutes. Pour through a fine mesh strainer and store in the fridge up to 2 weeks.

For the drink:

  • In a cocktail shaker, add your bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice. Shake at least 30 seconds or until cocktail shaker is extremely cold.
  • Pour over ice in a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with a lemon slice and sprig of basil.

Notes

Quick, no-prep simple syrup alternative: In your cocktail shaker, muddle 5-6 basil leaves with 1.5 tablespoons water and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon liquid monk fruit sweetener. Add ice, bourbon, and lemon juice, then shake and serve.
