Keto-Friendly Chinese Food
Most Chinese dishes are often served with noodles or rice. It’s also common for many Chinese sauces to use sugar. For a keto diet, that means a lot of Chinese meals at restaurants are off-limits, unfortunately. However, many dishes start with sauteing vegetables and meats in oil which is perfectly acceptable on a keto diet!
To make keto-friendly Chinese food at home, it’s all about finding the right low-carb sauce recipes and the occasional use of grain substitutes!
Best Keto Substitutes
Instead of using white or brown sugar in your sauce recipes, we can replace those with keto-friendly sweeteners. Both monkfruit and Swerve offer 0 calorie, 0 net carb versions that work in sauce. These do not affect your blood sugar and still balance out the soy- or sesame-based sauces you’ll want to make for your keto Chinese recipes.
The next step is finding an acceptable substitute for the rice or noodles to serve with your meal. The easiest (and perhaps healthiest?) option is to replace your starches with vegetables. Roasting or steaming broccoli is a quick, easy substitute that requires minimal work. You could use riced cauliflower, broccoli, or chopped cabbage instead as well!
Shirataki noodles are a great low-carb substitute that works well in stir-fry or topped with delicious orange chicken. They even make a rice version you can use as a base as well!
Keto Thai Food
